History
Minus 1 is a second-generation family-owned business, founded in 1989 by Dominic Barba. Dominic had a vision, a truck, and a promise to deliver chickens across Victoria for Sunrise Poultry, and his reliability and exemplary service grew the business to introduce their linehaul operations in 1996. This incredible growth brought on the need to expand, and introduce more employees into the business and move away from outsourcing to subcontractors.
In 2015, Minus 1 commenced their on-site workshop, bringing those urgent repairs, troubleshooting and general servicing and maintenance in house. We proudly maintain this workshop today, that services our 400 strong fleet.
As always in a family-owned business, Dominic & Belinda’s children Billy, Dominique, Daniel, and Michael were never far away. When Minus 1 expanded to open their second location in Dandenong South, eldest son Billy took over running the Operations arm of the business, and daughter Dominique applied her financial acumen to manage the administration and finances. Michael and Daniel both work in the business, with Michael overseeing the night-shift linehaul operations and Daniel leading the cold-storage facilities.

In 2020, the Barba family started to seriously consider what the next steps looked like for Minus 1, and began the family succession plan to allow Dominic to retire. In 2021 Minus 1 opened their Brisbane depot, and in 2022 opened the South Australia depot.
On the back of the incredible growth the business had and continues to experience, the transition to the family succession model introduced Billy Barba as the Managing Director, and his appointment of a management team to provide Minus 1 with crucial leadership in the years to come.
The future of Minus 1 looks bright. In 2024 Minus 1 will move into their new depot in Dandenong South which brings together the support office, operations, workshop and trailer storage to one impressive site. 2024 has also seen Minus 1 move to a bigger site in Cavan, SA, and in 2025 Minus 1 will complete the construction of their purpose-built depot in Minchinbury, NSW.
The last three decades have been really exciting for Minus 1, and we look forward to the future.
